Feeling behind in life? Why is this a good thing
Are you feeling behind in life and feel everyone around you seems to be moving ahead of you at lighting speed? Some of your friends are getting married, buying their first home, having a baby (oh no!) or, they just landed their dream job. And here you are working for a company you don’t really like, at a job that is not fulfilling, single “still” and living at home. WTF happened? You had it all planned out! You were going to land your dream job right out of college, meet Mr. Right soon after and get married and start a family. So why did none of these things happened and why is this a good thing?
Dream World vs. Reality
I’m guessing that by now you are realizing that a lot of the things that you were dreaming about are unlikely to happen. I know this really sucks because we all want good things to happen to us and hope that we don’t have to struggle in life. If you are in your 20s or early 30s, please take a deep breath and know that you have plenty of time to get your life figured out, and get where you want to be. Dreams are a beautiful thing but in reality, you have to work to get there. Nothing worthwhile is going to just land on your lap. It will take time and effort, but it doesn’t mean you can’t achieve those things.
So back to our question:
why is feeling behind in life a good thing?
Maturity
This is a sign of maturity. Feeling behind means you are maturing and realizing that there is more to life than whatever it is that you were busy doing. It means you have woken up and smelled the coffee. You are ready to get serious with your life and start getting your life together. This is actually great news because there are some people that drift through life and never feel what you are feeling right now.
Honesty
You are finally being honest with yourself. Maybe you always wished you could’ve accomplished more with your life but ignored that feeling until now. You are now being completely honest on the things you really want in life. You should celebrate this, there are many who don’t know what they want in life and that is not where you want to be. In order to get anywhere, you need clarity, so this is a great place to start. By being honest with yourself, you have an advantage to get where you really want to be.
Self-Aware
You are now self-aware of where you are at and is not where you want to be. Seriously, this is a great place to be in your 20s or 30s. It’s the time to reflect and figure out who we are and what we want out of life. You are becoming your own person and are seeing things from a different perspective. The world is whatever you want it to be, so you are not behind, you are exactly where you need to be!
Write Your Story not someone else’s
Now that you realize that you are actually in a good place in life, you can start creating the life that you really want. But please be cautious here, because the last thing you want is to get to the finish line, and realize this wasn’t your dream life after all, it was someone else’s. The people around you and many other things can influence your decisions so be mindful of this and think for yourself. This is your life after all so you decide how you want to live it. The decisions you make today will affect your future so make sure these are coming from you and only you.
