How To Be Happy & Bring More Joy Into Your Life

I used to spend a lot of time being unhappy. I would let my mind control my emotions and let it dictate my state of being. Not until one day when I realized that I had a choice. I could stay in the miserable situation I was in, or do something about it. I figured out that you can actually learn how to be happy.

This mindset shift has changed my life.  I’m not saying I’m always in a state of happiness but I’m well aware that I can control my feelings. When a problem arises, I know that I don’t need to allow that negative emotion to linger for too long.

I can choose to let go and allow positive feelings to flow back in my body. It’s not easy and takes a lot of practice but I’m so much happier now. I see life as a gift meant to be enjoyed.

I know what you are thinking. You are probably saying, “Lylian that sounds great and all, but how exactly do I change how I feel if life sucks at the moment.”

Don’t worry, I get it! I’ve been there and I will give you the steps I took to get into the right mindset so you can start creating the AMAZING, fulfilling life you deserve.

Happiness is not a purple unicorn that only a few people experience in their daily life. This is something you can create every single day. And the good news is that you have the power to change your life starting today. You can learn how to be happy and it’s really not that complicated if you are open to practicing this on a daily basis.

Okay, let’s dig in….

How to be happy in your everyday life:

Start Your Day with Affirmations

This may sound woo-woo to you but don’t judge until you try it. Daily affirmations are powerful and they will get you in the right mindset very quickly.

You can try doing it in front of the mirror or, write them down in your journal. I used to write them down because I always felt that writing down something is more powerful.

Now, because it’s so ingrained in me, I can do it pretty much anywhere. I can be riding the bus and I am going through my affirmations in my head. You choose what works for you, but give it a go— you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Take life one day at a time

I don’t know about you but I tend to want to fast-track and get to where I want to be like yesterday.  I think it has a lot to do with our current lifestyle where everything is so fast paced.  We lose sight of what’s in front of us and neglect to be fully in the present.

This creates a lot of anxiety and pressure for us to always be on the go and acquire as many things as possible because we think they will be gone tomorrow.

But honestly, I don’t think life works that way, things take time, there is a process for everything. Yes, we have evolved and technology is rapidly changing but our core being it’s still the same.

We still need quiet moments and time to just be in our own element.  If you are feeling overwhelmed, please take care of yourself and slow down.

You will see that by letting things be, life is much easier.  You won’t get everything you want done today but that’s okay. Those things don’t matter, you DO!

Practice Gratitude Everyday

I’ve heard it said that it’s not happy people who are thankful, but thankful people who are happy and I can vouch for that. I could honestly do a whole blog on gratitude…maybe I will (stay tune).

If you are not practicing gratitude in your everyday life then you are missing a big component.

And I don’t mean repeating the same thing every day half-heartily. This really has to be with all your heart and soul because it will mean nothing if you don’t mean it.

Look around you, look around your life and start making a list of the things that really matter to you.

If you can’t come up with anything (which I really doubt it!) remind yourself of the fact that you are able to breath, able to walk, able to dance, able to read and many more wonderful things that don’t require much from you. You have the ultimate gift—LIFE!

How To Be Happy Is In You!

Remember this, you woke-up today to be OUTSTANDING. To shine regardless of what others think of you. I truly believe we were given this life to do more with it and to be happy. We were not given this gift of live to spend it mindlessly. Live life each day with intention and purpose.

Create that amazing life every single day. Wake up each morning and remember what you are grateful for because one day, it will be gone. Life is special and like Chad Sugg said, “If you’re reading this…congratulations, you’re alive. If that’s not something to smile about, then I don’t what is.”

I hope that quote did make you smile and you found a nugget of useful information in this article. I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment and let me know what you are grateful for today.
